Should girls be allowed to play football?  A local little league football league says no.  The TYRO league has had a long-time rule that boys play football and girls are cheerleaders.  A recent vote upheld the ban.

It means that three girls who had played football last year won't be able to play this year.  Their teams joined the more competitive TYRO league this year and because of the rule banning girls from playing it leaves them on the sidelines.

TYRO officials say it's out of concern for the safety of the girls.  The boys get hurt too, but at their size and weight the injuries are usually just bumps and bruises.

Over the years officiating football I've seen many girls play football, even at the varsity level.  Often the players are kickers, and I've seen some pretty good ones.  I can recall some girls actually playing offensive line.  If girls can play at the high school level why can't they play in little league?
