The home of the legendary "garbage plate" is for sale.

Nick Tahou's Hots, where the famous dish was invented, is listed for sale; the real estate listing describes the property as:

"Historic Main St location, building and land available for developmental use. License agreement for the well-known restaurant also available"

The building is located at 320 West Main Street in Rochester, with an asking price of $975,000.

The listing includes mention of "License agreement for the well-known restaurant also available," meaning a future owner would be able to operate under the Nick Tahou's name.

According to WHEC:

When asked how long the restaurant has left before having to close, Owner Alex Tahou said, "I don't know. I have a dollar number in mind, where if it gets to that point, we'd have to consider shutting down temporarily at least."

 

He went on to say "Quite honestly if somebody comes in tomorrow and wants to buy the building, I think we'd entertain any offers."

The infamous Nick Tahou's Garbage Plate has some famous fans -- most notably, comedian Jim Gaffigan, who wrote the regional dish into a comedy routine.

According to WHEC, the restaurant remains open and has not announced any plans to close, despite the real estate listing.

WHEC asked owner Alex Tahou about a timeline for selling the business and/or closing:

"I don't know. I have a dollar number in mind, where if it gets to that point, we'd have to consider shutting down temporarily at least."
