Shocking Buffalo Bills Coaching News on Tuesday
The Buffalo Bills staff is gearing up for a busy week ahead, with the NFL Scouting Combine which takes place in Indianapolis this week.
After that, there’s the start of free agency on March 16th, followed by the NFL Draft in late April. It’s the busiest two months of the off-season.
The Bills, we thought, were done making coaching changes but on Tuesday morning came shocking news out of One Bills Drive.
The Bills have announced that longtime defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will be taking a year off from coaching in 2023, but they stress he plans to return in 2024.
This is fascinating because we’re now at the combine and all the big coaching names have been scooped up. Do the Bills promote someone in-house? Does head coach Sean McDermott call plays again? He hasn’t done that since he was the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in 2016.
Perhaps Frazier’s contract was up. If that’s the case, there’s no guarantee he’s back at all with the Bills after 2023 — which the Bills did not specify with that press release.
For now, the Bills do not have a defensive coordinator to meet with draft prospects at the combine this week…
