They're meant to slow traffic down in residential areas and they're going to start showing up around Buffalo.  It's called a "Speed Hump" and the new initiative will be hitting streets soon.

Speed hump?  What the heck is that?  I've heard of a speed bump...but what's a speed HUMP?

According to Buffalo Rising, the placement of the bump or hump, and the speed to which you'd like to slow traffic down to will determine if it's a bump or a hump.

(Speed Humps are) designed to reduce car speeds to 5-10 MPH, where speed bumps, meant for parking lots and driveways, are designed to reduce car speeds to 2-5 MPH.

It's simply a pilot program for now, but be on the lookout for more these in residential neighborhoods if it seems to work well.
