Emotional Post From Fire Company After Tragic I-90 Bus Accident
The National Transportation Safety Board is still in Western New York investigating the deadly bus crash that killed 5 and injured dozens of others on the New York State Thruway on Friday. 12 people are still in local hospitals in Western New York. There is going to be an ongoing investigation and, although there are theories floating out there about what happened, the National Transportation Safety Board says that they will not release their preliminary findings for about 30 days.
In the wake of tragedy, hats off to all of the first responders. It is astounding to see all of the people that stop their day to help others in need. After all, all of the fire departments, helicopter services, police departments, ambulance companies are all just regular people helping out regular people. Sometimes I think it easy if we take advantage of the fact that when you call 911 someone gets out of their bed, or stops their day, leaves their family to come help someone in their community. Often it is not even paid, so hats off to everyone that was involved with the accident on Friday. It wasn't just the help on the 90, too. The local traffic was an absolute disaster and was saved by local departments. Traffic was forced to get off at Depew or Pembrooke, which was absolutely causing a huge problem on side streets.
But, maybe now is the time to get involved. Learn something new and help out the community. You can see the emotional post that the Lancaster Fire Department shared over the weekend. Below, we have listed out several companies that are looking for people to join.
Did you know that just six volunteers—ages 50 to 72—were the first on scene for a mass casualty incident involving over 50 people?
Six people.
That crew was able to asses the situation, call for relevant mutual aid from several counties, calmly keep dispatch informed of what was happening, help with rescue & recovery and work to keep other motorists still on the interstate safe.
