The U-S Department of Transportation has proposed a rule that would require new cars to have rearview video cameras.  The National Highway Traffic Administration says it's a solution to stop over 100 deaths and 7-thousand injuries each year caused by drivers who can't see what's behind them when they're backing up.  And many of the victims are young children.  Anybody who's been driving for a while has had some kind of incident or at least a close call while backing up - bumping another car in a parking lot, hitting a fence or running over a bicycle left behind the car.  You just pray that what you hit isn't a child.  A good idea and at a small cost - roughly $200 per vehicle.  That's a safety feature I think all of us would be willing to pay for.
