Other than the bar/restaurant and wedding venue industries, the hardest hit were movie theaters during the pandemic.

Many people haven’t been to a Regal or AMC movie theater in Western New York since February or March of 2020, but that changed in May as many Regal theaters reopened across Western New York.

There was great news this weekend if you’re fully vaccinated and looking forward to heading back to some of the biggest movie chains.

According to WIVB, Regal, AMC and Cinemark theaters have announced they have dropped their mask requirements for fully vaccinated customers. The announcement comes two weeks after the CDC announced their new guidelines that recommend fully vaccinated people no longer have to wear a mask in most settings.

Those who are not vaccinated are asked to still wear a mask in these theater chains, unless they’re eating or drinking.

All three chains, however, are asking guests to check with their state and local government mandates, along with their local theaters before going.

Western New York has multiple Regal locations, including the Walden Galleria (Cheektowaga), Quaker Crossing (Orchard Park), and Transit Road (Williamsville).

There are two AMC locations (Buffalo and Amherst), while there are two Cinemark locations in Rochester.
