The summer of 2024 is here and across New York State we are dealing with a week long heatwave that has made it tough to breath and enjoy the outdoors. But as summer arrives, so does the busy road trip season for drivers and families across the Empire State.

Not only is summer a busy travel season on the roads and in the skies, but more people are walking and biking than ever and the need to pay attention is greater at this time of the year.

Our focus and attention is pulled in so many different directions these days. However, when you are in a car, it is imperative that you follow the rules of the road for your safety and for the safety of those around you.

Among the things to remember when you drive is that you have to wear a seat belt. In fact, the New York State Troopers have stepped up their efforts to watch for people driving without wearing one.

According to reports, Troopers say there were over 112,000 tickets issued between May 20th and June 2nd and more than 15,000 of them were for improper seat belt use and child restraint violations.

The other issue is people driving fast, way too fast. In fact, recently, the New York State Police posted a story on "X" about a person recorded going 101 miles per hour in a 65 mile an hour zone!

Be safe and enjoy the summer! New York State has so much to see and do from Niagara Falls to Manhattan!
