If you have plans for ice fishing on Lake Erie, you might want to reconsider your plans, at least for now.

Lake Erie is around 95% frozen, but over the weekend, a massive crack opened up, leading to warnings for ice fishermen on the lake.

80 Mile Long Crack Opened On Lake Erie

The massive crack was spotted on satellite images, and it appears to be 80 miles long, reaching from shoreline to shoreline. The crack also looks to be 2 to 3 feet in width.

The formation of the crack could indicate that the lake is not froze and deeply as first thought, and that could cause problems for ice fishing. Milder temperatures this week could also have an impact on ice fishing along the lake

The National Weather Service is urging anyone who plans on ice fishing on Lake Erie and the other Great Lakes to use caution.
