There is some big news for New York State residents who may have some lasting health effects related to the terror attacks on September 11th.

After more than two decades since the horrific attacks on the United States, there are some survivors and rescue officials and volunteers who are dealing with various health issues that were caused by, or a direct result of, being in the area around ground zero that day and the following weeks.

For those who have been diagnosed with a disease, like cancer, after being involved in the cleanup after the terror attacks in 2001, help is available, and there is a way to see if you qualify.

New York State reports that: "If you were at the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan or, in some cases, parts of Brooklyn on September 11, 2001, or you participated in the Pentagon, or Shanksville, PA 9/11 rescue, recovery, or cleanup effort, and you developed a physical or mental health condition as a result, you may be eligible".

There may be some compensation coming your way even if you were not a first responder.

That day will forever be stuck in our minds. I remember watching the coverage of the volunteers and first responders running in to help and thinking how these people were true heroes. There are plenty of things that our tax dollars a are wasted on. However, when tax dollars are use to give back to those men and women who arrived on scene to help is worth every penny!
