Matt Araiza was known as the "Punt God" when he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills.  Now he's going to be playing with one of the Bills biggest rivals.

The Buffalo Bills shocked a lot of people when they drafted a punter in the 2022 NFL Draft.  The controversy that followed was even more shocking.

Who is Matt Araiza?

Matt Araiza was known as the "Punt God."  He was an incredible special teams player at San Diego State.  The Bills liked him so much that they used a draft pick to get him in the 2022 draft. Many called him the most talented punter they had ever seen.  It wasn't uncommon for him to punt a ball over 80 yards, something that is rarely done.  Unfortunately they ended up cutting him before the season began.

Why did the Bills cut Araiza?

Araiza and two of his former San Diego State football teammates of raping a teenage girl at an off-campus party in the fall of 2021.  The girl was 17 at the time and made accusations that Araiza and his teammates had served her a drink containing not only alcohol but other “intoxicating substances" before she was allegedly raped by Araiza, Zavier Leonard, and Nowlin "Pa'a" Ewaliko while drifting in and out of consciousness.

In December of 2023, Araiza was dropped from the civil lawsuit against him.

Araiza has signed with a new team

According to Adam Schefter, the controversial yet incredibly talented punter is signing with the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2024 season.

While some thought he might sign back with the Bills following Sam Martin's hamstring injury in the playoffs, it never happened.
