Position Groups Where The Buffalo Bills Are Still Thin After The Draft
Before the NFL Draft started, the Buffalo Bills were in a position that they hadn't been in for a while. They had a lot of needs to fill. They needed help at a lot of position groups, but now that the draft is over, are there still areas where they need help?
Who did the Bills end up drafting?
Brandon Beane had said multiple times prior to the draft that they didn't have a lot of 1st round grades on many of the players where they were going to be picking. So it wasn't a huge surprise, and many would argue that it was a good move to see him move back in the draft to pick up some extra picks later in the draft.
A lot argued that they would rather see impact players now, than lots of picks who might not even make the roster, but if they didn't think they were worthy of a pick that high, it made sense to trade back.
Here's who they ended up getting:
- OLB TJ Parker (Round 2, No. 35 overall)
- CB Davison Igbinosun (Round 2, No. 62 overall)
- T/G Jude Bowry (Round 4, No. 102 overall)
- WR Skyler Bell (Round 4, No. 125 overall)
- LB Kaleb Elarms-Orr (Round 4, No. 126 overall)
- S Jalon Kilgore (Round 5, No. 167 overall)
- DT Zane Durant (Round 5, No. 181 overall)
- CB Toriano Pride Jr. (Round 7, No. 220 overall)
- P Tommy Doman Jr. (Round 7, No. 239 overall)
- G Ar'maj Reed-Adams (Round 7, No. 241 overall)
I think he did a good job with what he had. Cornerback was, in my opinion, one of the thinnest groups prior to the draft. They grabbed two more corners, so we will see how/if they pan out.
Now, following the draft here are the position groups where I still think the Bills need some depth
Linebackers
It feels like every year, it's our linebackers getting injured. I'm not sure we had the same linebackers playing in every game in the 2025-2026 season. And as of right now, we are still going to have to fill the holes left from Milano and Shaq Thompson becoming free agents. Whether that means they bring either of them back on a one-year deal, or they find another veteran free agent to take their spot, the Bills really only addressed the linebacker position with 4th round pick Kaleb Elarms-Orr. That leaves them with Bernard, Dorian Williams, and Joe Andreesen, who started games last year.
Edge Rusher
The Bills picked an Edge/OLB with their first pick in the second round when they grabbed TJ Parker, but there's not a lot of depth behind their starters this year. They've got Rousseau and Bradley Chubb, but then their starting experience drops off quite a bit. They still have Javon Salomon, who they're hoping takes a big step forward. But they're also hoping for a big comeback from Michael Hoecht and Landon Jackson, who both suffered awful injuries last season. Considering their pass rush was lacking last year, we hope that new Defensive Coordinator Jim Leonhard has a plan to help get it working this year.
Safety
Yup, I'm going all defense here. I really feel like that's where the Bills need the help. The big question is, who is going to be the guy opposite Cole Bishop this season? They brought Damar Hamlin back, and they've got CJ Gardner-Johnson. What will they do if there's an injury? Is there anyone who will step up for that job this year?
