Free Agent Running Back Changes Mind, Won’t Sign With The Bills

The official start of the new NFL league year begins at 4 pm today. Players who have agreed to sign with teams can do so. The negotiating window for free agents began at noon on Monday and we have already seen a few dozen players agree to terms with new teams.

Or should I say, "intend" to sign with new teams. It's not official until they sign on the dotted line although it's rare to find an example of a player who has a change of heart.

Unfortunately, that happened to the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday.

According to ESPN senior NFL insider, Adam Schefter, running back J.D. McKissic has changed his mind and will not sign with the Bills. He instead will sign the same term deal and stay with the Washington Commanders.

McKissic agreed to a two-year, $7 million deal with the Bills on Tuesday, but he has decided to return to Washington.

McKissic would have been a great situational back and slot receiver for the Bills, so this is an unfortunate blow to Brandon Beane and company. He would have been perfect for this offense.

McKissic is not the only player who has done this since Monday. Edge rusher Randy Gregory agreed to a $70 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys, but decided instead to sign a similar deal with the Denver Broncos and changed his mind.

Former Bills running back did this a few years ago when he signed with the Indianapolis Colts, after agreeing to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Bills will have to find another running back in free agency or the NFL Draft.
