Million Dollar Winning Lottery Ticket Sold in Tonawanda
There's one lucky new millionaire waking up this morning in Tonawanda.
A million-dollar winning ticket from last night's Mega Millions drawing was sold here in Western New York.
WKBW reports the winning ticket, which is worth $1,000,002, was sold at the H&M Fast Shop Market on Oliver Street in North Tonawanda.
Western New York has had some luck in the New York State Lottery lately.
Last month, a winning ticket in the June 15 Take 5 drawing worth $15,049 was sold in Lancaster at the Tops Express #58 at 470 Aurora Street in the village.
Just five days later, another jackpot-winning Take 5 ticket was sold in Hamburg.
That ticket was sold at Uncle Joe's Diner in Hamburg, and was worth $30,241.50 (before taxes).
All it takes is a dollar and a dream right? Well, what are your chances of winning a lottery jackpot?
It's not a one in a million shot to win a Take 5 jackpot -- technically, your odds of winning a Take 5 lottery jackpot are 1 in 575,757 -- so a one in a little more than one in a half a million shot.
The odds are considerably steeper when it comes to jackpot-level luck in Mega Millions, where your odds are 302,575,350 to 1, according to the Mega Millions website.
You actually have better odds winning a Powerball jackpot, those odds are 1 in 292,201,338.
Last year, a man from North Evans became the area's biggest Powerball jackpot winner, cashing in a ticket worth $80M.
David Yax tried to stay cool while cashing his record-breaking winning ticket, telling Powerball.com:
“I ran the bar code and knew it was time to leave and call my financial advisor. I was very calm.”
