Buffalo Bills Bring Back Familiar Name to Backup Josh Allen

Wednesday, March 6th will go down as a monumental day for Buffalo Bills fans.

It was the end of an era. The Bills started the day roughly $41 million over the 2024 salary cap and made huge strides in getting to being cap compliant by the end of the day.

The Bills released safety Jordan Poyer, center Mitch Morse, cornerback Siran Neal, wide receiver/kick returner Deonte Harty and cornerback Tre'Davious White.

White's release is a June 1st designation. That means he's free to agree to terms with any team now, but the Bills will get cap relief by then, which will be about $8 million.

The Bills did, however, make additions to the team and even a re-signing as well.

Buffalo re-signed safety Taylor Rapp to a 3-year deal, worth up to $14.5 million. This puts less strain on finding safety replacements for Poyer and Micah Hyde, assuming Hyde retires or leaves in free agency.

The Bills also signed former punter Matt Haack and brought back quarterback, Mitch Trubisky.

Trubisky spent the 2023 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He started two games for the Steelers and played in five total. He was benched in favor of backup Mason Rudolph, when Kenny Pickett was injured and didn't play again the rest of the season.

He was Josh Allen's backup in 2022 and before that, the starter for the Chicago Bears. The former 2nd overall pick is now a career backup and returns to Buffalo, with a system and environment he knows well.

This means Kyle Allen won't be re-signed by the Bills.
