The NFL is constantly trying to find more ways to make the game safer.  But over the years, the Bills have seen some devastating injuries.

Football has been described multiple times as a violent sport.  It requires its athletes to be incredibly physical for every game.  It's why there is so much protective equipment for the players to wear and rules that fans think are over the top.  In some cases, maybe they are, but they're there to protect the players while they're on the field and for years after.

Unfortunately, accidents still happen.  Nobody likes to see it and sometimes it almost feels taboo to talk about it.  It's "the unspeakable" for a lot of people.

Whether it's from getting rolled up on, stepping awkwardly on an ankle, or taking a nasty hit, you always just hope that the injury isn't all that severe and that there won't be any lingering effects.

Like many teams, the Buffalo Bills are dealing with injury problems again this year. They're already thin at linebacker after losing both of their starters Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard.  Now, with the injury to Taylor Rapp, and after losing Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer in the offseason, they're getting a little thin at safety too. They're constantly looking for the "next man up" to step in and fill a spot for someone who has just gone down.

While this year has been rough already, the Bills have been dealing with some devastating injuries for years now.  Here are some of the worst ones that I can think of that happened in the year 2000 or more recently.
