New York State Traffic Law Gets Massive Change
The next time you are on the road and see a car or truck on the side of the road, you will need to move over.
Here in New York State, the laws seem to always be changing in some way and this one is aimed at keeping more people safe on the roads we drive.
We all know by now that when you see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road, you need to slow down and move over. This doesn't mean stop. There are some who seem to get nervous and just stop where they are and that can also be dangerous. But Governor Hochul has a new addition to the law that will get drivers to make room for cars and trucks that are disabled or stopped on the shoulder of the roads.
With the signing of Senator Webb's "Move Over Bill," the existing Move Over Law now covers all non-emergency vehicles stopped on the road, providing increased protection for motorists and emergency responders alike. This legislative action underscores Senator Webb’s commitment to prioritize the safety of its citizens, making roads safer for everyone who uses them. The signing of the "Move Over Bill" is a significant step forward in reducing traffic-related accidents and ensuring the well-being of all New Yorkers.
The schools are back in session and kids are everywhere. The most dangerous time to be on the road is here and you really have to pay attention to what is happening around you.
If you have ever gotten a speeding ticket, you know it is a big hassle. Fees, time spent in court, insurance issues and points on your license are all part of the routine after you get written up. New York State may increase the points which could lead to more people having their license revoked.
According to Livingston County News:
The changes would make it more difficult for persistent violators to get back their driving privilege back, DMV officials said in a news release. They said they’re in response to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s 2023 State of the State proposal to take high-risk drivers off the road.
