As we begin July, and get ready for the Independence Day holiday, people across New York State are planning their weekend fun! However, before you hit the road, there is one law that you need to be aware of and follow.

By all accounts, this should be the busiest Independence Day travel week we have ever seen. The TSA is reminding people to arrive early and prepare for larger than usual crowds at the airports here in New York and across the entire United States.

But for those getting ready to travel in a car this week, it will likely be busy as well. With that in mind, brush up on a few automobile related laws, especially if you have children.

According to New York State, when you get in a car with passengers, they must wear some sort of restraint. For those 8 YEARS AND OVER, it must be a seat belt.

The New York State website states that, "New York State law requires all motor vehicle passengers ages 8 and older to wear seat belts, regardless of seating position. Children under the age of 4 must ride in a car seat and children under the age of 2 must ride in a rear-facing car seat".

For those who are driving, you should remember the "New York State Move Over Law".

It will be hot and sunny Fourth of July this week! Enjoy the vacation or trip that you are on and be safe!
