Niagara County Office for the Aging Offers Services, Workshops and Meals to Community
The Niagara County Office for the Aging offers programs, services and facilities to help adults 60 years and older maintain independence. Annually, the Niagara County Office for the Aging provides more than 215,000 meals to sites and homes. They also provide counseling and screening for benefits programs through calls and appointments, as well as legal services and medical rides.
Established in 1973, the Niagara County Office for the Aging is funded by the New York State Office for the Aging with Older American Act and New York State Funds, and by Niagara County. Since then, the Niagara County Office for the Aging has expanded and offers many more needed programs for all persons age 60 and over.
NY Connects Niagara County, which was established in 2008, is one of those entities. They offer unbiased information and assistance regarding Long Term Care Services. NY Connects Niagara County serves people age 60 and over and the disabled of any age, as well as caregivers and professionals.
The Health Insurance Information, Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP) is also located at the Niagara County Office for the Aging. They provide unbiased information and counseling about Medicare and other health insurance options. HIICAP also offers individual counseling as well as workshops.
HIICAP’s informational and enrollment sessions for Medicare are free for the public to attend. Whether you’re new to Medicare, or know a little bit, they break down the costs, co-pays and deductibles, and the basics of Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D, Supplemental Insurance. They also offer a session to get the basics on programs that help pay the out-of-pocket costs of Medicare and Medicare Part D for those that might need help. They plan to hold their next workshop in June, with dates TBD.
