If you had to guess, what would you say "plogging" is?

a) Building toys with plastic logs, i.e. the next generation of Lincoln Logs
b) Cosplaying with those cute little animals from one of the new Star Wars movies
c) Jogging and picking up trash

If you guessed c, you'd be right. (Those cute little creatures from "The Last Jedi" are actually called porgs.)

Plogging, to quote an explanation in The Washington Post, is a "Swedish fitness craze" that is gaining popularity here in the United States. "The term is a mash-up of jogging and the Swedish 'plocka upp,' meaning pick up. In this case, litter," The Washington Post explains.

Runner's Roost is teaming up with the Great American Cleanup Run to offer plogging from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, July 19, starting at their store at 4190 North Buffalo Road, Orchard Park, NY 14127. (If you're younger than 16, you'll need parental approval to sign up.)

  • Group-led plogging run with Runner's Roost
  • Post-run activity: Create your own shoe planter!
  • Giveaways, sneaker demos, & more!

Whether you're a dedicated runner or a casual jogger, this is a great way to help your community, learn a new jogging route, socialize with fellow runners and check out Saucony demo shoes. Walkers are welcome and Saucony is providing gloves and trash bags.

Busy this Thursday? You should still make time to check out their weekly group runs or stop in the store for a shoe fitting. They were the kind souls that told me I had been wearing running shoes that were two sizes too small. They instantly improved my running by suggesting the correct shoe!
