The turkey hunting season here in New York is not that far away. May 1st can't get here soon enough for those of us who love to be in the woods in the early morning hours of spring.

The sound of a turkey gobbling on the roost on a clear, crisp morning is pure heaven! But when it comes to getting that turkey close enough to take a shot, tag it and bag it, you'll need the right call. Lucky for us, we have some of the world's best calls that were developed right here in Western New York.

I have been turkey hunting since I was just a young kid and now that I have three sons, I plan to introduce them to it as well. We took a trip to Cabela's this past weekend to search for a few calls. Among the giant selection of calls, we spotted the Quaker Boys calls! I explained to our sons that Quaker Boy started right here in Western New York and now is used by hunters all over the world!

I may be partial to Quaker Boy because I did grow up using their calls. But I have tried a dozen other brands and find that Quaker Boy calls are the easiest to use and even our five-year-old son was starting to yelp out some good calls with his first mouth call before we even left the parking lot!

Good luck in the woods this spring! If you get a chance, introduce a kid to the outdoors!
