We LOVE a good farmer's market in our house. If there were one open near us every day, we would probably go every day. If you're looking for a great farmer's market to check out, try some of these ones out.

Reasons to shop at farmers' markets

If you're looking for a reason to go to a farmer's market when you've got a store right up the street, I've got a bunch of them.

1. They're good for you. If you love organic food, or you just like to eat healthy, it would be hard to find foods that are healthier than the ones that have just been harvested. Whether it's fresh meats, cheeses, or vegetables you're looking for, you're going to find the freshest ones at the farmer's market.

2. They're good for farmers. When you buy directly from a farmer, you help them to keep more of the money they've earned. It can go right back into their pocket so they can continue to feed their own family. In turn, they can then invest in the community where they live too.

3. It's more than just meat and vegetables. Not that it would be bad if that was all they sold, but many of these farmers' markets also have booths set up where you can buy other treats. If you're looking for honey or maple syrup, you can normally find it there. Maybe you need olive oil but don't want the stuff that comes from a factory. Some markets even have food trucks where you can get a bite to eat while you shop, and some of the booths will cook their fresh food for you too! I had a crepe last weekend at the Hamburg farmer's market, and it was incredible.

4. It's good to get outside! A walk around a farmers' market is good for you.

5. The food is as fresh as it gets. As soon as food is harvested it starts to lose its freshness. These foods are normally right from the field, or as close as you're going to get.

6. You can talk to the source. Want to know what went into that food you're about to eat? Ask the farmer that is selling it. They'll normally be able to tell you everything you need to know!
