Buffalo Sabres Had This Mascot BEFORE Sabretooth
The Buffalo Sabres actually had a different mascot before Sabretooth was here in Buffalo.
Who was the Buffalo Sabres mascot before Sabretooth? I haven't lived long enough to know anyone but Sabretooth as the Buffalo Sabres mascot and heard for the first time this weekend that there was actually a different mascot before him.
Sammy Sabre.
Sammy Sabre was replaced by Sabretooth in the mid 1980s as the marketing team of the Sabres tried to match the success that the Buffalo Bisons were having with their mascot, Buster Bison. Sabretooth was actually the mascot for the Buffalo Bandits from 1992 until 1998 as well.
Sabretooth just turned 38 years old! He was introduced by the Buffalo Sabres before a game in October of 1988. Take a look at Sabretooth as he takes the ice for the first time ever. The image and costume has hardly been updated much from the classic look.
The Buffalo Sabres are coming off a very hot season and are going to have high expectations from Buffalo Sabres fans that have not seen back to back winning seasons in over 16 years.
The 2 most popular nights for giveaways are usually the Thanksgiving and Bobblehead games. This year, they are both back, but the Buffalo Sabres announced that this year's Thanksgiving giveaway will be the salt and pepper shakers! This will help complete your Thanksgiving Sabres set even more. The past 2 years the Sabres have given away a Sabres gravy bowl and a Sabres butter dish--2 things that have been wildly popular and people really spend a fortune trying to buy them after market.
