It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This week, our Hometown Hero from Buffalo, NY served in the United States Army.  It’s Samuel J. Magistrale!

Samuel was born and raised on the West Side of Buffalo and is now residing in Lancaster, NY. Magistrale is a father of 5 children, 1 son in law, 1 daughter in law, 14 Grandkids, and 4 Great grandkids!

He voluntarily joined the US Army February 14, 1963 and went to basic training at Ft Knox.  During Magistrale’s time in service he was sent to Korea for 13 months where he was in charge of an engineering security cage.  Stored there were both high dollar items and items that Korea wasn't producing yet which made them highly secure items and all heavily accounted for.

Magistrale was awarded a Good Conduct medal along with other medals as well as a Letter of Accommodation for checking the Identification and making a General sign in as protocol to the highly secured cage.  His supervisor, who was taken back due to him questioning A GENERAL on who he was, ended up with Magistrale ultimately being awarded with a Letter of Accommodation due to him DOING HIS JOB! :)

Magistrale received an honorable discharge from a tour in the US Army and is currently enjoying retired life with his beautiful wife Anne.

This week, we are proud to name Samuel J. Magistrale our Hometown Hero of the week!
