Looking for a good deal on Buffalo Sabres hockey jerseys and other gear?  HockeySabresShop.com was not the place to go and unfortunately some Sabres fans found out the hard way.  By Federal Court order, the Buffalo Sabres and NHL working with the Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York have successfully been able to shut down the scam website which was billing itself as the "Official Online Store of the Buffalo Sabres."

It certainly looked legit.  Turns out it was an overseas company that was using the Buffalo Sabres logo and the Better Business Bureau logo fraudulently.

A Sabres fan filed a complaint after ordering an item thru the website and the item never arrived.  When they attempted to contact the company they found there was no way to do it.  There was no contact number or company address and payment was made thru a third party.

Among the suggestions the Better Business Bureau has to avoid being duped:

• Shop in established stores and on websites you know are reputable.  If you're not sure of a website or an establishment, use the services of the Better Business Bureau to check its rating, complaint history and reviews from other customers.
• Make sure that the website you're using is legitimate.  It may look authentic, but grammar and spelling are often indications it's not what it appears to be.
• If it sounds too good to be true it likely is a scam.  If it's an expensive item being advertised at a low price it's probably counterfeit.
• Buy only sports items that are officially licensed.  They will have the correct colors and spelling, tags will have hologram stickers and they will be of top quality.

Finally the Better Business Bureau advises to trust your instincts.  If something doesn't look or feel right, walk away.  If you happen to come upon a counterfeit website let the BBB know about it.
