New York State Comments On Popular Goose Season

Fir those who love to be outdoors, the best part of the year is about to begin! New York State is one of the best places to be in the fall and we are just a few weeks away from the official start!

Have you had enough of the heat and humidity? This is a good old fashioned summer here in New York State and the hot and dry weather will continue this week. But no matter what the forecast is calling for, those who love to hunt are getting anxious for September to get here and now is the time to start to prepare.

The opening day of Canada goose season is only a few days away and New York State has some reminders for those who will be hunting.

The cooler mornings and earlier sunsets are getting me fired up for the hunting seasons that will be starting soon. Canada Goose season will start as of September 1st and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has some reminders.

"Shooting Hours: ½ hour before sunrise to sunset during regular season. During September, shooting hours are extended to ½ hour after sunset, except when other waterfowl seasons are open (e.g. Youth Waterfowl Season)".

Make sure you have the proper and current license and that you have the necessary HIP number as well!

"You must register with HIP to hunt geese".
