This week’s Hometown Hero is a Marine Corps Sergeant. Originally from Grand Island, our Hometown Hero is Sergeant Michael Magaris!

Michael joined the marines in 2009 and got out in April. He became a sergeant in just three years, which is not an easy feat to accomplish. He did a tour in Afghanistan in 2011. He puts his whole heart into everything he does. Always trying to help out and give back every chance he gets. He would fly home on leave just to help work on his family’s farm. He always put his Marines, family and friends first and would do anything for them. He's strongly missed by the Marines that served under him, and leaving them was one of the hardest things he’s had to do.

We want him to know that his family, friends and fellow Marines are so proud and thankful for everything he's done. Those of us at WYRK want him to know that we appreciate the things he’s done; that the world needs more people like him.

If you would like to nominate someone who is currently serving our country or has served in the past, click the button below. We will choose a new Hometown Hero each Friday. If their name is chosen, we will not only feature them on WYRK.com, but we’ll be sure to thank them for their service on the air and dedicate the first song on Noon Tunes to them.
