Each week, we like to recognize the brave men and women who are currently fighting and have fought for us in the past in our U.S. armed services. This week, we would like to recognize PFC Shane Woods!

Private Woods is originally from Newfane, but is currently living out his dream of being a soldier with the Army.

His mom nominated him, and in the nomination, she describes Shane as a leader, an athlete and a hero. She says he overcame a lot to be where he is right now after starting down an unhealthy path. This has been a dream of his since he was a little kid, and his parents have never been more proud

Shane comes from a big family with seven brothers and sisters, and when he told his parents he wanted to enlist, they put their fears aside to support his decision. Shane isn’t the only one in his family serving in the army either. His brother joined shortly after Shane left.

She writes:

We brag about our sons to everyone. We as parents feel that we can say yes we did our job ,we didn't have it easy but we passed the test. We raised a young man who would lay down his life for strangers. We raised an AMERICAN SOLIDER!!!!!

If you would like to brag about someone who is currently serving our country or has served in the past, click the button below. We will choose a new Hometown Hero each Friday. If their name is chosen, we will not only feature them on WYRK.com, but we’ll be sure to thank them for their service on the air and dedicate the first song on Noon Tunes to them.

Once again, thank you to PFC Shane Woods, our Hometown Hero of the week!
