It's not uncommon for NFL and NHL players to visit Western New York and the Buffalo region. The Bills and Sabres have a lot to do with that.

However, it's more uncommon for NBA or MLB players, past or present, to visit Buffalo. We don't have a Major League Baseball franchise, and it's been over 40 years since we last had an NBA team (the Buffalo Braves).

As it turns out, one of the best NBA players of all-time recently visited Buffalo and it was all for a a great cause to help one Buffalo family who is still mourning.

Shaquille O'Neal played in the NBA from 1992-2011. He was selected to 15 All-Star games and won four titles; three with the Los Angeles Lakers and one with the Miami Heat. He is fifth all-time in career points. Shaq, as many fans call him, is considered one of the top 10 greatest NBA players, ever.

He's also a professional DJ, as he has been touring venues around the country.

Shaq was at Buffalo RiverWorks for a DJ set this past weekend and he decided to donate the $50,000 he got for the event, to the family of Aaron Salter Jr.

Salter was a retired Buffalo Police officer, who was working as a security guard for the Tops on Jefferson Ave. the day that a gunman killed 10 people, including Salter, who engaged the gunman to help save the lives of others.

Shaq met with the Salter family when he was in Buffalo and let them know he would donate the money to them.

An incredible gesture.
