Snow Removal Etiquette To Remember In New York State
Snow is showing up again in the weather forecast for New York State. Here are a few suggestions of how to remove it without being a jerk to your neighbors.
When the snow begins to fall, most people in New York do what they can to help their neighbors. Sometimes that means grabbing something extra for them when we go out to the grocery store. Sometimes it means helping them to clear their driveway so they can get to the store on their own.
It's a bigger burden for some people than it is for others. While some people get to stay home all day to monitor the situation, others might have physical barriers holding them back. Some simply have to spend the whole day at work and can't keep their driveways or sidewalks cleared.
I can't tell you how often my neighbors have bailed me out with the snow. I'll forever be grateful for good neighbors.
If you do decide to do some snow removal, there are some things you should always keep in mind. There is actual etiquette involved in shoveling and plowing snow. Whether it's your driveway or someone else's, there are some unwritten rules that you should always adhere to.
These aren't things that you HAVE to do. You can certainly do what you want, as long as you aren't breaking the law. But if you want to be a good neighbor and get along with the people who live around you, doing these things won't hurt.
