New Original Song Is All About Western New York [LISTEN]
You know the saying… “there’s always a Buffalo connection!” That saying proves true for the newest original song, released by an upcoming duo band.
Every once in a while, radio stations around the country receive music submissions from local bands or smaller bands that have a nationwide appeal, and one duo band’s newest song caught our attention almost immediately.
The band is called “The Beard and the Bird,” made up of husband and wife duo Jon Hasz & Cathryn Curry. Although they are from San Diego, the couple has developed a soft spot for the Buffalo area.
Hasz explained, “We fell head over heels in love with Buffalo in 2021, and now travel back and forth from gigs year round.”
“When we're out here, we're fortunate enough to be able to tag in some incredible local musicians like Kody and Herren, Charlie Coughlin, Danusia and Jim Royce to expand our two piece into something bigger,” Hasz said.
The familiar returns to Buffalo, New York started to feel nostalgic over the years, which led the band to create a song that gives a nod to their road trips to the area.
Called “Take The 219,” the song is about the journey from San Diego to Buffalo and being able to see scenery unlike anywhere else.
“We had never seen so many different shades of green before,” Jon Hasz said. “Since our first trip out we've brought close friends and family out to experience what life is like in Western New York, from the gorgeous scenery, delicious food, and massive music scene, our loved ones are usually on Zillow by the end of day one.”
“Take The 219” is a song that represents the beautiful roads that lead you away from the big cities and into a simpler, less stressful way of life.

That’s a song that would be blaring through my speakers as I travel to Letchworth to look at fall foliage.
