Soon You Could Bet On Sports Thru Your Phone In New York
New York lawmakers are currently working on a bill that could allow people to bet on sporting events on their mobile devices.
The Senate Standing Committee on Racing, Gaming, and Wagering are set to hear testimony on the bill this Wednesday in Albany.
The U.S Supreme court ruled last year that sports betting is legal outside of Nevada if the state allows it to be legal. New Jersey is among 7 states that legalized sports betting. Under the current bill, New York is likely to join them this summer.
Under the proposed bill, sports betting would be at four upstate casinos, but an amended was made to allow sports betting on mobile devices as well as eventually permitting betting at non-casino venues such as sports stadiums and arenas.
Here are the casinos that sports betting would be allowed at, Rivers in Schenectady, Del Lago in the Finger Lakes region, Tioga Downs in the Southern Tier and Resorts World Catskills in Sullivan County.
