The news was not good for the fans and athletes of Canisius College teams this week. The spike in COVID-19 cases has forced the college to pause or temporarily cancel the season.

According to reports, five teams have seen an increase in infections but they haven't been identified due to privacy laws. Teams will be able to play again if the confirmed rate drops below 3%.

I am a graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo and the school has a long and passionate tradition for it's sporting programs. I was attending the school when the football program was pulled. It was a really tough pill to swallow. However, recently, the softball, baseball and basketball programs have really been in the spotlight.

I actually tried out for the basketball team way back in the day and got cut. It was just not meant to be for me. However, after I got cut, I got my internship here at WYRK and been here ever since. Sometimes things do work out!

It has to be tough for the athletes to stop mid-season. Especially for the seniors who have worked so hard to get to where they are.

Canisius College is not alone with the COVID case increase. In Erie County this week, there was a definite spike in cases and the deaths related to the virus have been the most since months ago.

Hopefully, through testing, Canisius will see a steady and quick decline in cases and resume the season! Go Griffs!
