When March rolls around, and the winter snow in Western New York has finally started to melt, there are a few sure signs that spring is coming to town. As the waterways begin to open up with the spring thaw and we see the boy of summer at Sahlen Field getting ready for open day in downtown Buffalo, get also get to see a sea of green take over Buffalo's central core as the region gets ready for two big parades to celebrate the life of Saint Patrick and for those of Irish heritage to celebrate pride in their culture.

Buffalo's downtown St. Patrick's Day parade is a spectacle that is like no other. The parade route, which is filled with marchers, revelers, bands, dancers, musicians, and families, goes on for more than a mile up Delaware Avenue in Buffalo from Niagara Square into Allentown.

The 2026 parade was a special one because Buffalo's often fickle weather participated in a way we haven't seen in a while, with sunny skies and near 60°. Thousands of people flocked downtown to celebrate.

Thousands Lined The Streets In Downtown Buffalo For The 2026 St. Patrick's Day Parade

Irish Dancers and Bagpipers set the tone as Parade Grand Marshal Daniel O'Sullivan was joined by Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, New York State Senator April Baskin, and others, as hundreds of floats left Buffalo's Niagara Square to head north along Delaware Avenue.

This tradition has existed in Western New York for decades and is why Buffalo continuously ranks among the top-ten cities for Irish-American celebrations in the nation.

Now that we've unofficially started spring in Buffalo, it's time to get ready for even more festivals, as many more are on the horizon.

We snapped quite a few pictures at this year's parade, and you can check them out below.

Crowds filled the streets of Buffalo during the 2026 Buffalo St. Patrick’s Day Parade, enjoying a rare stretch of comfortable weather for the beloved tradition. Under clear skies, marchers, musicians, and families lined the route dressed in green, celebrating Irish heritage and community pride. The mild temperatures made it the perfect day to gather downtown, wave flags, and soak in one of Buffalo’s most spirited annual events. Smiles, laughter, and plenty of shamrocks filled the air as the parade brought the city together on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
