Strange Fear Is A Nightmare For People In New York
Fears are interesting things. What is completely normal and harmless to one person can scare the life out of another. So what do people in New York fear the most?
While there are some people who claim they aren't afraid of anything, most people will admit that they've got one thing that they are just terrified to do or things that they're afraid to be around. Those things are considered phobias.
What are phobias?
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, a phobia can be defined as an uncontrollable, irrational, and lasting fear of a certain object, situation, or activity. So, things like enclosed spaces, certain animals, or even more basic things like simply being stared at all have phobias named after them. They claim that around 19 million people suffer from phobias.
Are men or women more affected by phobias?
Strangely enough, both men and women are affected equally when it comes to phobias. They each experience phobias in their own way but Men are more likely to get treatment for them.
Normally they claim that true phobias normally peak between the agest of 15 and 20.
It's clowns...isn't it?
How many people do you know that are afraid of clowns? If you just had a long list of people in your mind, that makes sense. A new study was done by asking 987 people internationally between the ages of 18 and 77 how they felt about clowns. The phobia is called coulrophobia and it's pretty widespread. The study showed that 53.5% of the people said they were at least a little afraid of clowns and 5% said they were terrified by them.
But clowns weren't even close to the top of the list when it came to people in New York.
What do people in New York fear the most?
The study was done by New York Bets by analyzing the Google searches of people in New York for the last 12 months. So what did they search for the most?
People in New York...are afraid of holes.
Yup. Holes. It's called Trypophobia and it's the fear of clustered patterns of irregular holes. You see it a lot in plants, and even in your hairbrush. Remember the definition above? It's an uncontrollable, irrational, and lasting fear. They can't control it, and normally they can't even explain it.
