While in a store the other day, an uncomfortable situation came up when a store employee asked for someone's name and info as they were buying a flag.

We celebrate Flag Day each year on June 14th because it was on this date in 1777 that Congress authorized the design of the first American flag.

We celebrated Flag Day on Wednesday by making several stops around the area to give away free American flags courtesy of Ace Flag.  From Amherst to Clarence to Cheektowaga and even a visit to an elementary school parade we put flags into the hands of hundreds of people.

As we celebrate Flag Day today I thought you might be interested to find out who is credited with designing the flag that we're currently using and have been since 1959.
