As we’re coming up on week eight of the NFL season, we think it’s time that someone sets the record straight about Taron Johnson.

Every member of Bills Mafia is familiar with the go-to cornerback, and we all know where we were when he made one of the most unforgettable plays in Buffalo Bills history– the 101-yard interception that boosted the Bills to the 2020 AFC Championship game.

Although injuries kept him off the field for a portion of last season, Johnson is still a reliable member of the Buffalo Bills defense. And yet, he still takes a lot of disrespect these past few years; not regarding his performance, attitude, or dedication, either. We just don’t get it…

Why don’t people know how to pronounce Taron Johnson’s name?

Week after week, we are guaranteed to hear a play-by-play announcer, color commentator, reporter, and even shockingly, members of our own fanbase, absolutely butcher his first name.

Who knew that five letters and two syllables could cause such confusion?

It may seem silly, but frankly, we’ve had enough. It’s time to set the record straight on how to definitively pronounce Taron Johnson’s name.

When speaking with the Buffalo media soon after he was scooped by the Bills in the 4th round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Johnson made the pronunciation of his (somehow?) difficult first name clear. It’s unfortunate that so many have forgotten it, so we think it’s about time for a necessary reminder.

Unknown Buffalo Media: Hey, can we just get the pronunciation of your first name officially? Congratulations.

Johnson: Thank you, I appreciate it. TARE-un Johnson.

TARE-uhn.

Or, TARE-un.

Or, TEAR-un.

Not TIE-run.

Not Tuh-RON.

Not TIE-ron.

Not TAY-ron.

It’s not any of the obnoxious twists that both the national media and Bills fans have conjured up over the past five years, and for crying out loud,it really shouldn’t be so hard.

If you need more batting over the head to get his name right, here’s a post on X from the Buffalo Bills PR team that was put out soon after he was drafted.

Say it again with us… “TARE-un JOHN-son.”

(At least, thankfully, it’s close to impossible to screw up his last name.)

Keep picking off those passes, Taron (TARE-un!) Johnson, and we’re bound to get your name correct one of these days. You deserve it.
