The Buffalo Bills Might Never Win A Super Bowl Thanks To This “Rule”
Everyone has a theory of why the Buffalo Bills have failed to get over the hump, but this rule might be one reason why.
They call it the 5-year rule. It states that "no team has ever started the same quarterback under the same head coach for more than five years and seen that duo win its first championship."
Duos have been able to win one together in year five, but once they've gotten past 5 years, if they haven't won a championship it probably won't happen. Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy won it in year 5. Brett Favre won in year five with Mike Holmgren. Joe Flacco won in year 5 with John Harbaugh.
Josh Allen and Sean McDermott just finished their 7th season together.
It's not encouraging news for Bills fans who are praying that somehow they will find a way to not only make it to the Super Bowl, but to win it with both Josh Allen and coach Sean McDermott. The question is whether or not it's a curse, or if it's just never been done before.
The Bills aren't the only team that should be worried about this rule either. Baltimore is another team that is being affected by it. Lamar Jackson has been with John Harbaugh for the same amount of time as Allen has been with McDermott and so far, they haven't fared much better in the playoffs.
But Bills fans know that if anyone can do something that's never been done before it's Josh Allen.
