The summer of 2023 could be the hottest one yet! Across New York State, there has been a dry stretch of weather that has fire officials on alert and farmers praying for rain. But with the good weather comes the start of a very busy few months on the roads and New York State police agencies are looking for drivers who are not paying proper attention.

The unofficial start to summer has come and gone and next up is the end of the school year! For most parents, it may seem like the school year just started! The days are flying by and the kids will be out having fun and riding bikes to and from camps and parks. It is more important than ever to be alert when we drive.

This past Memorial Day weekend, police in New York State were looking for those drivers who were distracted, speeding or under the influence of drugs or alcohol and thousands of tickets were handed out as a result.

From Friday, May 26th through Tuesday, May 30th, there were over 13-thousand 400 tickets handed out for offenses like speeding, DWI, and distracted driving. Troopers also responded to more than 830 crashes but no deaths were reported.

It seems that many drivers who have been behind the wheel long enough have some sort of opinion on the way the roads should be or what the laws pertaining to driving should be. Here is your chance to speak up. Don't just get mad or frustrated, share your opinion with New York State!

Enjoy the summer! So far, the weather has been hot and it the summer has not officially started yet!
