According to new reports, WK Kellogg Co. is reintroducing toys into cereal boxes for the first time in more than a decade as part of a special promotion tied to Toy Story 5. Specially marked boxes are expected to begin hitting store shelves nationwide now, featuring collectible surprises inside.
Yes, The Classic Cereal Box Toy Is Back
But these are not just any random toys.
These are expected to be the kind of collectible toys everyone will be talking about — the ones that quickly become wildly popular, hard to find, and eventually viral on social media.
Remember when you were a kid and you could not wait to open the cereal box just to get the toy inside?
If you had brothers or sisters, there was probably a fight over who got to open the box first or who got to keep the prize. And cereal companies knew exactly what they were doing, they often placed different toys in different boxes so kids would beg their parents to keep buying more until the whole set was complete.
That usually meant moms and dads were driving from store to store trying to find the right cereal box with the one missing toy.
Well… fast forward to 2026, and now your own kids are about to do the exact same thing to you.
Toy Story Characters Will Be Hidden Inside Select Boxes
Kellogg says select boxes of cereals like Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, and Corn Pops will include Toy Story 5 character toys, themed spoons, trading cards, and other surprises as part of the limited-time campaign.
With the newest Toy Story 5 movie arriving in theaters in June, fans are already going crazy over the merchandise.
The franchise has been a massive sensation for decades, and now it looks like Toy Story is getting another huge revival , this time right at the breakfast table.
Parents Instantly Feel The Nostalgia
For a lot of us, this hits a very specific childhood nerve.
I still remember getting toys in cereal boxes when we were kids. One of my favorites was a mini Fred Flintstone figure. Nothing beat opening a box of Fruity Pebbles and hoping one of the promoted characters was waiting inside.
That was long before the days of TikTok, Instagram, or the internet making everything instantly viral.
Back then, we learned what toys were cool from our friends at school, by reading magazines, or by watching Saturday morning cartoons.
And somehow, that made finding that tiny plastic toy feel like winning the lottery.
Reddit users have already exploded with nostalgic reactions to the announcement, with many saying cereal box prizes were one of the best parts of childhood and joking that parents are now doomed to have overflowing pantries again.
Get Ready To Spend More In The Cereal Aisle
So set a little extra money aside, moms and dads.
There is little doubt many families in New York State will soon be standing in the cereal aisle, digging through boxes and searching for the select packages with the surprise toys inside.
And if history tells us anything, one box will definitely not be enough.
