As a Buffalonian, I thought for sure the mullet originated in the NHL among the Canadian and Northern US hockey player contingent. But country music has a long history of rocking the mullet too.
So who did it first?
Turns out, it was the ancient Greeks.
According to the History Channel, "[the Greek] poet Homer—in The Iliad, he described the Abantes, a group of spearmen, as wearing “their forelocks cropped, hair grown long at the backs.”
And while we know the mullet comes well before 1994, that's when the word was officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
