Western New York Hit With Another Tornado In This County
For the second time in just a few days, a tornado has apparently been reported in the same area of Western New York. As spring storms continue to move through the region, some have been especially intense. Even though the risk for tornadoes has only been listed as slight, it appears they are still developing. This latest report came from nearly the exact same location as the last one.
Another Possible Tornado Reported in Machias
Spring weather in New York State can be unpredictable. We can go from snow and cold temperatures to warm, humid days with the threat of severe thunderstorms in a matter of hours. This past week, there were numerous thunderstorm warnings across the region, and one storm cell passed over part of Cattaraugus County in Western New York, the same area where a tornado was recently confirmed.

According to reports online and on social media, it appears that another tornado may have formed over Machias, New York.
Severe Weather Continues to Target the Same Area
We have property not far from this location, and trees, branches, and limbs have been torn apart throughout the winter and during these early spring storms. One friend even joked that this part of Cattaraugus County and Western New York is starting to feel like a new tornado alley.
Typically, during the winter months, this exact area is known for getting hit hard by lake-effect snow. For whatever reason, the winds and storm clouds also seem to be focusing on this location during the spring.
New York Weather Swings From One Extreme to Another
If there is any good news, it is that the warmer weather finally appears to be sticking around. However, we still cannot seem to get more than two dry days in a row.
Eventually, we know the nicer weather will settle in for a longer stretch. The changing seasons in New York State are part of what makes living here beautiful. Still, it certainly feels as though there have been more weather extremes lately, and many of them seem to be affecting the same areas over and over again.
Why You Should Be Ready for Power Outages
If you do not already have a generator or backup power system, now may be a good time to consider one. Whether it is an automatic standby generator or a portable unit that you can pull out of the garage when the power goes out, having a backup plan is becoming more important.
Power outages seem to be happening more often, and being prepared can make a big difference for your family as we head into the rest of the spring and summer storm season.
