What Duty-Free Items Can Americans Bring Back To The U.S. From Canada? [SPONSORED POST]
If you're making a trip across the border to Canada, duty-free shopping is the way to go. At Peace Bridge Duty Free, you can find great gifts, alcohol and tobacco at great prices -- and there's always no sales tax, and as long as you're within your exemption limit, you won't pay duty either!
So, if you're returning back to the U.S., how much can you bring with you?
On any trip, you can bring back up to $200 worth of merchandise, 5 ounces (150 ml) of alcohol and 10 cigars. After 48 hours, you're allowed up to $800 worth of merchandise, 33.8 ounces (1 liter) of alcohol and 1 carton of cigarettes and 100 cigars.
It's worth noting that Americans may be subject to a small duty or tax at the Customs officer's discretion for anything above the alcohol limit -- for example, 35 cents per bottle of wine, $1.25 per 24-pack of beer or $2-$3 per 1 liter of liquor.
