Last night my wife and I were treated to an evening of superb musical entertainment at Williamsville East High School's annual Winterfest concert. This annual concert began in 1975 when Williamsville East first opened. The Winterfest idea was patterned after the Eastman School of Music "prism" concerts. These concerts were created to showcase all of the Eastman musical ensembles in one venue.

Last night's Winterfest concert involved over 500 music and art students. I only wish I had a concert DVD recording so I could show you the amazing level of musicianship and talent of these Williamsville East students. Each performance was better than the next. We were treated with a plethora of Holiday tunes performed by the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Band, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Women's Chorus, Mixed Chorus and Chorale, plus individual performances.

My hat is off to the entire staff of Musical Directors at Williamsville East High School including Dr. Stephen Shewan and Maureen Reilly. It is so obvious that these wonderful educators are installing their passion for music and performing into the hearts of these Williamsville East students. Last night's concert featured a tribute song, "Let There Be Peace On Earth", dedicated to the families and victims of Friday's tragedy in Connecticut. The students rendition of this tune brought tears to my eyes.

Thank you to the musical directors and students of Williamsville East High School. You people know how to do the job right! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you from a Williamsville East graduate. You make me so proud of where I come from!
