Winter Storm Warning For Western New York County

Thursday is certainly a run-of-the-mill kind of weather day for Western New York.

In case you haven't seen outside, heavy rain has been impacting the Buffalo region and warmer temperatures, but those warm temps will continue to go down as we get into the late afternoon and overnight, into Friday morning.

The real worry for Western New York is the flooding from the rain and all the melting snow on Thursday.

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Warning for most of Western New York on Thursday. Ice jams and flooding is a concern for Buffalo Creek and Cazenovia Creek as the water levels rise.

But we also have to deal with that rain shifting to sleet, ice, and yes, snow.

The National Weather Service has just issued a Winter Storm Warning for Niagara and Orleans counties, between 5 pm this afternoon and 9 am on Friday.

Heavy snow and mixed precipitation are expected. Anywhere from 4-7 inches of snow could fall in Niagara County, especially the further up to Lake Ontario you are.

Ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch are possible as well, and the winds will gust to 35 mph.

WIVB says 2-3 inches of snow could fall in the Buffalo metro during the overnight, and travel won't be fun with the potential for ice, sleet and snow, making for slippery roads across Western New York.

Hopefully, the flooding subsides as well get into this evening. The warmer temperatures are a pleasant change from the bitterly cold, but with all that rain, it's caused headaches for the region today.
