WNY Native Leads Tampa Bay To Super Bowl Win

Even though the Buffalo Bills didn't make it to the Super Bowl this year, there was a Western New Yorker who played a major part in the Tampa Bay win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Amherst native Rob Gronkowski led the Tampa Bay receivers with 6 receptions for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns. Of course "Gronk" is not unfamiliar with playing in the Super Bowl, there was a three-time champ with the New England Patriots.

Gronkowski grew up in Amherst and spent the first three years of his high school career playing for Williamsville South. During his senior year, he moved to Pittsburgh and ended up playing his Senior year in Pennslyvania.

This was his first year playing for the Tampa Bay Bucaneers. He had retired but decied to come back after Tom Brady signed with Tampa Bay. He onlyed signed a one year deal and is expected to re-sign with Tampa Bay before the start of next year.

According to Profootballtalk.com, Gronkowski is the 2nd all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receivinng touchdowns in Super Bowl history. He is only behind NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.
