Do you remember what happened 26 years ago today in Buffalo Bills history? For a lot of Bills fans, it was one of the worst days for the team.

The Buffalo Bills of the 90's were about as good as it got. That team was possibly one of the best ever. Sure, they never won the big one, but they did what no team had done before, and no team has been able to do ever since then. They made it to four consecutive Super Bowls.

But on this day in the year 2000, it felt like a nail in the coffin for that team.

This is the day that the Bills lost three of their greats

On February 10th, 2000, the Buffalo Bills watched three Hall of Fame players go to free agency. They cut Andre Reed, Bruce Smith, and Thurman Thomas all on the same day. Jim Kelly had already retired. It was the effective end of one of the league's most dominant teams.
It's not as though they wanted to cut them, but the team was up against the cap and they just couldn't afford to pay them. Bills fans were crushed.

Bruce Smith ended up going to Washington, Andre Reed played for a brief time in Denver and then joined Smith in Washington, and Thurman Thomas ended up going to play his final season in Miami.

This was the beginning of the end for the Bills

People wonder why there's so much pressure on Josh Allen to win a Super Bowl and this is the answer. They never want to see this happen again. They never want to see the Bills get this close and not be able to get over the hump. It took the Bills 17 years after that season to make it back to the playoffs.

They've finally gotten back to greatness, and Bills fans never want to see their greatest players walk away without the big trophy ever again.
