It's hard to accept for any sports fan knowing that losing is winning. That's exactly the case with the Buffalo Sabres. If this season hasn't been miserable enough, the final month and half is going to be a disaster. It's almost like looking at a bad car wreck and feeling guilty when you do.
Goaltending made the difference in the Buffalo Sabres 4-2 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. The Sabres benefitted from some shaky work from the Columbus netminder while getting 45 saves from Michael Neuvirth.
It was a game between the best and the worst team in the National Hockey League and the result should be a no-brainer. The better team did win, but it wasn't easy. The Buffalo Sabres were four minutes away from beating the Nashville Predators in regulation until another Buffalo penalty put the Predators on the power play and they scored to tie it to force overtime and a shoot out. That's where the Predators won it 2-1.

Oh, the days when watching Buffalo Sabres games was actually fun. Those days are long gone and give credit to any fan who can actually stomach sitting thru an entire game from beginning to end. The Sabres had another horrendous first period, giving up three goals including one shorthanded enroute to a 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.
Matt Moulson scored twice, Tyler Ennis set up three goals and Jonas Enroth stopped 42 shots in a 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames. And now the Sabres have won 6 of their last 7 games on home ice and 8 of their last 11 overall.
After winning three in a row and six of their last seven, the Buffalo Sabres reverted to some of the ugliness they've been accustomed to playing and it cost them badly against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night. The Sabres gave up three goals in the second period sandwiched between a goal in both the first and third periods and the Lightning cruised to a 5-0 win to avenge their loss in Buffalo Tuesday night.
Because of the massive snowstorm that was pounding the southern half of the city and areas to the south and east of Buffalo thousands of fans weren't able to make it to First Niagara Center for Tuesday night's Sabres game against the San Jose Sharks
