2 New School Holidays Added to Districts New York State
Certain districts have added new holidays to the school year. There has been at least 1 added in every school district and up to 4.
Governor Hochul announced that New York State would mandate the Asian Lunar New Year in February, but also all school districts will get off for Diwali as a school holiday in November, though only for New York City schools and other districts that opt-in around the State.
- Diwali (November 1)
- Asian Lunar New Year
In Western New York, the Williamsville school districts, including their 3 high schools will be taking off for 2 additional holidays on top of the Lunar New Year and Diwali:
- Eid al-Fitr (April)
- Eid al-Adh (mid June)
Parents have seemed to react positively about the inclusive changes and added holidays to the school district.
