This weekend, the city of Austin Texas might have been the most googled city in Western New York history after it was leaked that the Buffalo Bills could make a move to the Texas town if they don't get the funding they want for a new stadium.
Buffalo has already battled back Toronto in the quest for the Bills but we already had a built-in feud with the Canadian city. We knew what they were about and how we were the better fit for the Bills. But what about Austin? What do you really know about the Texan town?
One thing you might be surprised to learn about Austin is that it is the capital of Texas. Most of us would have thought the capital would be Dallas or Houston. Also if you follow college football, you might know that Austin is the home to the University of Texas. The Longhorns have a history of winning championships claiming the National Championship in 1963, 1969, 1970, and 2005.
Austin also has its own slogan just like Buffalo's "Keep Buffalo A Secret" Austin is known for "Keep Austin Wierd" and the city is known to welcome alternative points of view and welcome in the artistic community. Just like Buffalo, there are tons of murals painted all over the buildings around Austin.
Austin is also known for music, as the famed "South by Southwest" music festival was created and is still held in Austin, Texas. Plenty of famous names also call Austin home as the Texas town is the birthplace of actors Matthew McConaughey, Ethan Hawke, and well as country singer Willie Nelson.
Would the Bills ever make a move to Austin, Texas? I don't think so. I think local officials know how important the Bills are to the community here in Western New York plus Austin Texas just doesn't make sense in the AFC East!
